What happened
Trade coverage has dubbed August 2026 the fastest month in AI history: more than eleven major model releases in twenty days, from Google, Alibaba, ByteDance, Meta, and others. For anyone trying to keep up, the sheer pace has made picking a model feel less like a strategic decision and more like trying to hit a moving target.
Our take
Chasing every release is a losing game for most businesses, and it's not actually where the value is. Model quality differences at the top of the market are now small enough, and switching costs real enough, that the smarter move is picking one or two tools that fit your actual workflows and sticking with them long enough to get genuine value — then upgrading deliberately, not reflexively, when something meaningfully better comes along. This is the same advice we give clients about marketing tactics, and it turns out to apply just as well to AI tooling: novelty isn't the same as usefulness.
